Environment and Agriculture

The Chamber of Commerce carries out important duties of environmental nature. The department of Environmental Protection and the department of Agriculture support companies in South Tyrol to fulfil the legal obligations in these sectors. Moreover, the departments give specific answers to questions concerning environmental matters, product security, legal metrology as well as viniculture and fruit growing related topics.

Environmental protection

The majority of companies that produce waste and traders in the sector do not have, or only partially have, the know-how to cope adequately with the environmental aspects of company management. This leaves them open to increased risks of legal sanctions. Moreover, legislation in the waste management sector changes frequently.
All companies that produce waste and carry out business in this sector are obliged to adjust to legislative changes.
The objective of the department for Environmental Protection consists in consolidating information and consultation with companies in South Tyrol on the legal and administrative aspects of waste management.

Agriculture

The Chamber of Commerce's responsibilities for agriculture concern above all the viniculture. The institutional activities include the documentation on grapes intended to produce source-controlled wines (DOC) and geographically typified wines (I.G.T).
In addition, the department of Agriculture updates and keeps the Vineyard Register and evaluates the quantity of grapes produced and turned into DOC- and IGT-wines. Moreover, the Department of Agriculture operates as a Control Authority for the certification of source-controlled wines (DOC).
The institutional activities for fruit growing include the measurement/calculation/evaluation of the annual fruit production and monthly residual amounts.
